Day 6
 |
| and more farm land... |
We got up at around 8:00 a.m. It was a slow start this morning. We both took showers did our morning chores and were off down the road. Our goal for the day was to make it into Alberta and find a place to stay for the night. I really didn’t like driving through Saskatchewan. It was the same old thing again and again. The landscape never seemed to change throughout the whole drive. I reminded me of an ocean of farmland. Farms as far as you can see in all directions. Starting at the lines in the road they seemed to slow down to a snails pace even though my speed never change. Day 6 was very uneventful. Driving and more driving. It was great not having anything to worry about. I can’t remember one memorable thing that happened on this day. We did drive through the cities of Moose Jaw and Saskatoon. I’m not sure they were that memorable. I am glad we were able to drive through Saskatchewan, it took the whole day and we stayed in the town of Loydeminster. The town is half in Saskatchewan and half in Alberta. I’m not so sure how that works out. We found a RV park that was located within a golf course. We settled for the night at about 7:00 p.m. We didn’t have a lot of interactions here with others at the park. I did have a beer with our neighbors, three young guys from Medicine Hat. There were working in the area doing oilrig work they were all riggers. I hadn’t spent any time before with oil workers and asked a ton of questions. What I basically found out is it is a very difficult job and many people get hurt. Many riggers are missing fingers from moving the pipes. Two of the guys I met were pretty banged up. They all told me this was their best chance to get ahead. The job pays well and it was the best work they could find without an education. They were working 12-hour day’s 6 days a week. They were all nice young guys and it was fun to get the perspective of young guys trying to make a go of it. We settled in to bed at around 10:30. I was glad we made good time, because other than that it was a boring tough day. I was excited knowing Alberta had to be better than Saskatchewan. At the end of the days drive we did start to see a few hills.
